Editorial

Packaging companies serve a variety of markets, and a large number of these end markets are stable, non-cyclical, steadily growing markets that are consequently attractive, regardless of the economic climate.

According to Fitch Ratings, the industry outlook for European packaging remains challenging, with some companies better placed than others to endure higher input prices and/or slowing growth. The packaging converters have also been focused on economies of scale, cost containment, and productivity gains, according to the rating agency.

Indian packaging manufacturer, ASB International, has incurred large savings by using Delcam`s CADCAM software. The packaging company found that Delcam`s solution for the design and manufacture of its PET containers showed a 50% reduction in design and programming time, plus an average 30% reduction in machining time for its moulds.

In response, companies are scrambling to bring new products to market, hoping for growth in top-line sales, and additional profits. They are also trying to better assess the value of that one last corporate department and initiative that defies easy quantification and ROI performance assessment: marketing.
