Synopsis

With the phenomenal growth in catalog sales, 1-800 phone sales, TV-based sales (QVC, HSN, etc.) and, of course Internet sales, new product distribution channels have had to evolve. These channels are invariably based on units passing through Distribution Center operations coming from various suppliers and going out to the ultimate consumers. In such operations, where no two packages necessarily have the same content, weight, damage potential or destination, the challenges of developing standards for packaging designs, materials, processes and performance may, at times seem overwhelming. Approaches for accomplishing this objective, based on current resources and developments will be covered.
