Synopsis
Crafting a container that must keep the formula safe from external and internal contamination is as important as creating the product. As an example, a unique plastic container is to be developed. Lacking samples of the newly designed container, a product/package compatibility and shelf-life test using several types of materials, is initiated to determine the material to use for the final container. This data tells the engineer what mold tolerances to use in developing the final plastic container as well as the best plastic material to use with the product. Whatever decoration is used for the final container, silk screen or plastic label, it must be evaluated to ensure that the product will not wash the decoration from the container and that the customer will be able to read the directions clearly. Tests for the final folding carton are to determine the efficacy of printed material using vibration and drop tests.

The corrugated container must also be evaluated in a similar manner to ensure cushioning components will allow the final package will arrive at the customer’s front door in pristine condition.
